This trip is all eight states, starting at the beginning in Chicago. Here are some more pictures from Illinois.
There are several sections of older Route 66 pavement still visible along the current road.
There are many restored filling stations along the route. This is the first one we came to….in Dwight, Illinois. It wasn’t open for the season yet, but a wonderful gentleman was there getting the station ready, so he opened up and took us through. He was a superb representative for the station, Route 66, and the town of Dwight.
The town of Pontiac, Illinois is a fun town. Of course there’s the Illinois Route 66 museum with tons of memorabilia from each Illinois town along the route (both inside and out). The folks who run the museum are very knowledgeable and were happy to pull out their personal photo books to share. I love how friendly everyone has been so far. For more info on the museum: http://www.il66assoc.org/destination/route-66-association-hall-of-fame-museum
The town also has a large number of murals scattered around town, including this one on the back wall of the museum…..
Or this one, Pontiac’s…..Pontiac.
This was a small side trip at the end of our day in Illinois. On to Missouri next.
Good luck Linda! Enjoy the trip.
