I’ve loved taking road trips for years, but this is the one I’ve really been waiting for…..Route 66. I’ll travel the whole length from downtown Chicago to Santa Monica, CA and I look forward to sharing some of my stops. Eight states, 2,448 miles, and decades of legends.

“The Blues Brother’s” movie was a family favorite, so I was excited to drive through Joliette and find the Blues Brothers dancing on top of a frozen custard stand, and to stop across the road from the old Joliette Prison shown in the opening scenes of the movie. I can see John Belushi walking out of that door………

Turns out the prison is pretty photogenic, We stopped in the Route 66 Welcome Center in the Joliette Museum http://www.il66assoc.org/destination/joliet-area-historical-museum-and-route-66-welcome-center/, and found out that they recently began giving tours of the prison. We don’t have time this trip, but I think I’ll be back…..the place has an intriguing history.
